The Greater Accra branch of the Past Students Association (PSA) of Our Lady of Apostle (OLA) College of Education in Cape Coast has donated assorted food items worth GHC 15,000 to inmates of Mephiboshet Training Center (MTC) at Gomoa-Ankamu in the Central Region.

The items included bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, soaps, cartons of different soft drinks, boxes of candy, and other sweets, bags of maize, cans of sugar, milk, and toiletries, amongst others.

Mrs. Rosemonde Asante, the President of this group, stated that the presentation of those items was aimed at fulfilling their Cooperate Social Responsibility Service (CSRS) to society, including the less-privileged.

She noted that the donation would complement the center’s efforts of caring and upkeep to safeguard the physical, emotional, and spiritual nurturing of the inmates.

The Group President commended the Board of Directors, management, and staff of the facility for consistently supporting the training and modeling of disadvantaged children.

Mrs. Rosemonde Asante urged the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection (MGSP), and the various District Assemblies to include schools that train children with special needs in their budgets and distribution of educational materials.

“Past students of OLA College of Education in Accra and Tema will continue to partner with MTC towards the full realization of developing the talents of special children for the socio-economic growth of the country,” she emphasized.

She also appealed to individuals, groups, philanthropists, religious organizations, and various stakeholders to support the activities of the vulnerable children in the country including the Mephiboshet Training Center.

The administrator of MTC, Miss Hannah Jehu-Appiah received the items and thanked Mrs. Rosemonde Asante and her group for their timely kind gesture.

According to her, the training center which presently has a numerical strength of 74 Children with Special Needs (CwSN) has faced a lot of challenges such as the lack of transport facilities to convey inmates to outreach programmes.

She said it was the vision of the Mephiboshet training center to become an internationally accredited institution for children with special needs, for the social and economic empowerment of the inmates.
