Justice Gertrude Torkonoo has made it clear that the judges do not receive ex-gratia.
She made this statement today during the vetting session as part of the process to verify her to become the next Chief Justice of Ghana.
She explained that judges are mostly in the office till they retire from their services.
Justice Gertrude Torkonoo added that the ex-gratia does not apply to any judge in the country because the Judiciary Service is an independent body as compared to any other form of service.
She, however, explained that based on Article 71 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, all judges are independent, and because of that, they are regarded as an independent body.
