Women’s Health to Wealth is set to lead the distribution of some 1,000 packs of ‘Be Girl Period Panties’ to school-going girls in the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
Ghana joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day this Friday.
The day was instituted in 2014 to become an annual awareness day aimed at highlighting the importance of good menstrual hygiene management.
Founder of the Women’s Health to Wealth, Mrs. Abenaa Akuamoah Boateng said that the gesture is to further deepen the commitment to breaking the barriers that impede access to education by all manner of people in the rural areas, especially Ahafo Ano South West district.
According to Mrs. Abenaa Akuamoah Boateng, support for the girl-child to stay in school and remain healthy is worth promoting, and she is prepared to do more to ensure the girl-child stays in school.
“It is not acceptable for the education of girls to be adversely affected because of a natural cycle that we all ultimately benefit from,” she explained.
The Happy School Girl Club will, from Tuesday, May 28, facilitate Menstrual Hygiene Management sessions and distribute over 1,000 packs of “Be Girl Period Panties” to school girls in the Constituency.
She used the opportunity to petition the government through the DCE for Ahafo Ano South West district, Hon. Joseph Frimpong Bonsu to reduce taxes on sanitary pads so that school-going children afford them.
