The Minority Caucus has rendered its undying support to James Gyakye-Quayson, toward the bye-election.
Prior to a release signed by the Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, “The NDC has become aware of the Supreme Court’s decision invalidating the nomination, election, and subsequent swearing in of Hon. James Gyakye-Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North as unconstitutional.”
The notice emphasized that “The court did not give reasons but said these would be available on or before 7th June
2023.”
In the light of many previous decisions that the caucus is aware of, including decisions in cases involving Honorable J.H. Mensah, Honourable Baba Jamal, and Honourable Peter Amewu, “the Supreme Court does not have the jurisdiction to invalidate a Parliamentary election”.
The caucus stressed that it seems strange to them that the Supreme Court gave this decision instead of High Court, where such matters should have been taken and addressed.
“Nonetheless, even as there are serious questions about the legitimacy of this decision, after consultation
with Hon Quayson, the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to state unequivocally that we are ready for the bye-election that is now the result of this decision,” the statement stated.
The Minority Caucus has pledged its full allegiance and weight to the James Gyakye-Quayson to ensure an even more resounding victory for him in the upcoming bye-election.
