The Supreme Court has declared the election of James Gyakye Quayspn as Member of Parliament for Assin North as void and unconstitutional.
The panel consisted of seven judges presided over by Justice Jones Dotse.
The election of James Quayson, who owed allegiance to a different country is inconsistent and violates Article 94 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
The court has thereby ordered Parliament to expunge his name as MP from the records.
The panel which consisted of Justice Jones Victor Dotse, Justice Nene Amegatcher, Justice Mariama Owusu, Gertrude Araba Torkornoo, Justice Prof. Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu, Justice Yonny Kulendi, and Justice Barbara Ackah-Yensu declared that Mr. Quayson was not qualified at the time he contested the election in 2020.
Lawyer of the New Patriotic Party, Frank Davies expressed his happiness for the ruling which he said, has gone in his favour.
