Newly elect flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has called for unity amongst all party members ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during his victory speech, minutes after he was declared winner of the presidential primaries of the NDC, yesterday, May 14, 2023, he indicated that “this election has cemented the party’s enviable record as the most democratic political tradition” in the country.
He stated that despite all losses and victories, he is pleading with all party members to stick to their “collective sights firmly on the supreme objective of the NDC leading Ghana out of the current abyss.”
John Mahama pleaded for “cooperation amongst all elected parliamentary candidates and their respective aspirants and supporters and all the constituencies across the country.”
He stressed that the party is a “winner since there are no individual winners and losers in the intra-party contest.”
He also seized the opportunity to thank his opponents, Dr. Kwabena Duffour and Kojo Bonsu for their contest and his campaign and operational team for keeping their focus and delivering a clean campaign.
John Mahama garnered an impressive 297,603 votes, accounting for a staggering 98.9 percent of the valid cast of just-ended primaries, and his closest competitor, Kojo Bonsu secured 3,181 votes out of the total 300,784 valid votes.
