Kejetia market will be reopened for business starting tomorrow, Tuesday, 21 March 2023, after the incidence of fire explosion which destroyed some 33 shops on the 8,000-shop avenue last week.
The reopening was announced by Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia when he visited the fire scene in the Ashanti Region.
The traders expressed their enthusiasm upon the announcement of the reopening since most of them were against the decision to close down the market for a week.
However, Dr. Bawumia stated that he was notified by officers of the Ghana National Fire Service and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) that the fire was caused by a gas explosion.
He revealed that results from the investigations which were held by GNFS pointed out that the fire explosion came as a result of a trader cooking in the shop with gas close to other shops which sold chemicals and even gunpowder.
He stressed that the fire was not caused by an electrical fault but due to the activities of some traders.
He hence promised the government’s support to affected traders and that the government will help them to revive their businesses.
