A group calling itself the 1993/1994 Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Officers Association has picketed at the entrance of the Parliament House seeking their unpaid benefits by COCOBOD.
According to the group, members were laid off in 1993 and 1994 without any compensation however, the court directed COCOBOD to pay any necessary benefits to the former workers after legal action was taken against their dismissal.
The spokesperson of the group, William Boafo bemoaned that the funds which were paid by COCOBOD do not correspond to any of their living conditions hence, they are appealing to the Speaker of Parliament and the Office of the Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter.
He added that the benefits given to some former workers are very low as some receive as low as ¢400, which does not sustain them in any way.
He stressed that over 14, 000 workers were affected by the decision of laying them off by COCOBOD however, several pleas and discussions with the officials of COCOBOD to address the matter have proved futile hence, their decision to picket at the entrance of Parliament.
