The Deputy Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection who doubles as MP for Kwabre East, Francisca Oteng Mensah has appealed to various political parties in the country to do everything possible to create chances for women, especially in parliament.
According to her, women are not enough when it comes to parliamentary sittings as the parliament house is filled with more men than women.
She added that the usual fifty percent cut of filing fees for women is not enough but rather, they should be a system put in place to develop the capacity of women in terms of their capabilities and skills to facilitate development in their constituencies.
She made these comments today in parliament when she contributed to a statement made by the Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Seyiram Alhassan in commemorating International Women’s Day which fell last Wednesday.
She also used the opportunity to appeal to the authorities to put measures in place to protect women from sexual harassment, gender inequality, and other forms of violence to motivate them to engage in activities within the new world of initialization.
